A personal trainer is not only there to help you get in shape but to also help you attain your goals in the quickest manner possible. Imagine being so stunningly healthy that you were an inspiration for your friends and family. The problem is, many of us don’t know how to start living a healthy lifestyle. A personal trainer can not only help you lose weight but they can also help you become the strongest version of yourself.

Here are the top 10 reasons for investing in a personal trainer.

1) Accountability. It’s tough to keep an appointment with yourself. It’s all too easy to blow it off. Now when you have an appointment with someone and they’re there waiting for you then you’re motivated to keep your end of the bargain and show up. Nobody wants to be a flake and no one wants to be inconsiderate so you’ll be motivated to show up on time and ready to go. Also, you’re paying for the session so you’ll be motivated to not miss your session and waste your money.

Furthermore, you’ll want to give it your all since you want to get the most out of your money. With a personal trainer, you’ve got skin in the game and money on the line. You’ll work hard just so you don’t flush your hard earned money down the toilet.

2) Expertise. A personal trainer has years of experience and knowledge they can impart to you. They can give you nuggets of gold and stop you from having to sift through the mountains of misleading fitness information that’s out there. Most of which is driven by flashy marketing and celebrity endorsements. A personal trainer can also maximize results and target specific muscle groups so that your results will be extremely fine tuned. Even the smallest adjustments to your form can ad enormous gains to your results.

3) Goal Setting. Identifying realistic attainable goals are difficult for anyone in any field. Many times we set our goals too high and we’re emotionally crushed when we don’t attain them. Goals need to be as specific and measurable as possible. Not “i’m going to do some push ups from now on”. Instead it should be, “I’m going to do 3 sets of 20 push ups with a one minute rest in between every wednesday at 3pm”.

Moreover, goals need to have a timeline. Think of goals as dreams with a due date. A personal trainer will make sure you hand in your dreams on time.

4) Personalized. We all have strengths, weaknesses, specific needs and unique goals. A personal trainer will design a program specifically designed for you that will help you meet all of your requirements within the time frame that you desire.

5) Injury. Exercise is dangerous. Most of us are fearful of starting a workout program because we don’t know what to do and we’re worried about getting hurt. This is a legitimate concern but there are solutions. A personal trainer can teach you how to perfect your form so that your chance of injury will be significantly reduced.

As well, if you’re active, you probably already have a set of injuries- bad back, bad knees, whatever- and a personal trainer can show you exercises to work around your injuries and perhaps work with your physiotherapist to further rehab your injury.

6) Fun. Working out can be boring and repetitious; and thus, cause your results to plateau or your cause you to give up on your fitness goals. The next thing you know, you’ll be sitting at home watching Game of Thrones rather than hitting the gym because working out is boring and Games of Thrones has boobs. A personal trainer can keep things up lifting and fun by changing up your workouts periodically and by showing you new variations of old exercises. As well, personal trainers can keep things engaging by teaching you new skills like olympic lifting or kickboxing.

7) Challenging. It’s exceptionally difficult to motivate yourself and it’s even tougher to push your limits. The fact of the matter is that if you want to achieve your fitness goals in the quickest way possible, you’re going to have to work your butt off. A personal trainer can help push you further than you can push yourself and you’ll be able to achieve results much faster.

8) Learning. You want to learn how to get fit all on your own. Working out is a lifestyle and ultimately you want to learn how to live a healthy lifestyle without having someone looking over your shoulder. Working out and eating right is no different than brushing your teeth and showering- it’s just something you do as a healthy vibrant human being. The unfortunate thing is that working out and eating right is confusing and overwhelming especially if you have years of bad habits slowing you down.

Body mass index, heart rate, training different energy systems, proper lifting form- man, it feels like you’re learning a whole new language.

You want a personal trainer to teach you how to live a healthy lifestyle and how to make the gym your home away from home.

9) Support. Working out can be frustrating. It’s painful and difficult and it’s often gruelling. It’s also 100% inconvenient. There’s ALWAYS something better to do other than hitting the gym.

Working out can also be highly discouraging. Sometimes, we unrealistic expectations. I often hear, “I’ve been working out for 3 weeks now, how come I haven’t lost any weight??” A personal training can help you deal with these frustrations and temper your expectations with friendly doses of reality and coach you to be patient and to keep going.

With hard work, consistency and dedication, you will achieve your goals; but, unfortunately, many people just quite after a few weeks or months. A personal trainer will help you deal with the emotional challenges.

10) Train for Sport or an Event. A personal trainer can help you bolster your performance if you play a sport or if you’re an active competitive athlete. Or perhaps you have a big event coming up- high school reunion or wedding. You need results by a certain timeline. A personal trainer can help you set a program up so that you’ll reach your fitness and performance goals within the time frame that works for you.
